(no subject)

I'm really depressed about being poor.

Normally I don't get this way cause I don't think in terms of being poor. I have food, shelter, cute clothes, and enough money to do fun things. Most my clothes come from a thrift store, and my neighborhood is one of the poorest around, but it's not...bad, you know? I may not have a lot, but I make the best of what I have, and a shit load have it worse.

But like...I have gotten the message LOUD AND CLEAR this semester that if you want to make it as an artist you HOMG need a Mac. So I was thinking I could get one. Wait till I get my finaical aid, they have student prices, and it might be stretching it a bit, but I'd swing it.

Wrong. So wrong. To get the CHEAPEST I'd be facing being homeless. Literally, this isn't be being hyperbolic. If I bought one I couldn't make rent or buy food or anything. And that's the cheapest.

I dunno. Ugh. I hate this feeling. Yeah, money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure get rid of a lot of unhappiness.

*hugs*

Babe, you don't necessarily absolutely NEED A MAC to make it as an artist, wtf. It's just the difference between a 1.8 Gamma and 2.2 Gamma display. Programs you DO need like Photoshop and Painter etc run perfectly fine on regular computers too. >___> It's not a need, it's a luxury. Seriously. Best of luck and chin up, k? Haven't talked to you in forever ♥ Take care~

If people can make it big with just painting on paper and material then certainly you don't need a mac to make it big as an artist. I would never trade in my computer for one, but personnally freaked when we had to change windows to an upgraded verison cause of how crazy new it was. I'm such an old-bone like that. It might make it a little easier with a mac, or be faster processing, but the real art and great quality and talent are going to come from you first and not the machine you are working on.

I know your art - even if you were drawing in mud you would become one of the greatest - so smile!

If you want, you can have my super old mac I bought off eBay. It's a bit slower than the laptop you already have and 3 keys on the keyboard are moody, but it has Photoshop and Microsoft office on it. Have you looked on eBay? You could get a new mac for something like 750 rather than the 1,000 that the school offers. Does Metro have a payment plan? At UNC, say... you wanted the cheapest iMac (desktop all-in-one). With Adobe CS3 and an iMac, it would come out to about $240 for 6 months. If you think that's feasible, you could come up here and I'd use my student ID so you could get it. If you end up saving for a Mac, stick with a desktop, because you get more power and storage for your money.

I know the feeling, trust me. And it really, really, really sucks - even if it's just that fleeting moment of "Damn I wish I had money."

But... ther ehave got to be ways to get around using a mac. I wouldn't know, but there has to be some kind of improvision? Or maybe you could rent one from rent-a-center. They're usually pretty good about being cheap even if they really do kind of rob you.

Oh sweetie...I'm so sorry...
Look, I'm a total Mac user and I'm a big believer in macs potential for graphic programs...if you really need one, check out craigslist.
You don't need the best of the best. A G4 or G5 running either Tiger or Leopard will work for you.

Great deal on this one!

If you can get this one, do it. Awesome deal.

Good portable. And you can hook up a tablet or mouse to it.

Not at all. The power cord you can get from the Apple Store at the Cherry Creek Mall for $65 or so.

The Mac mini's require a monitor and/or a mouse and keyboard, but you can use the one you have now.

Thank you babe. And my friend Cherie has been walking me though what to look for on ebay too, so between these two sources...I just have to wait for fall either way.

I understand. If you need some programs, let me know. I have the entire Adobe Creative Suite (CS3) and I could possibly send it to you.

Bullshit.

You don't NEED a Mac. Most of the programs you're going to use have Mac and PC versions anyway. The technology isn't that different and alsdkfj laasdf jlk I'm not getting into this right now but you'll be fine with what you have. SERIOUSLY.

PS, thanks for adding in that bit about "not normally thinking in terms of poor". I generally get really PO'd when people are like "BAAAAAAW I LIVE IN A HOUSE AND HAVE FOOD BUT I HAVE IT SO BAD". I say this like I never complain about a lack of money, but, still.

Well, what I HAVE technically doesn't even barely run photoshop, but I had some friend help me out and figure out what'll work.

And yeah, ususally when I see "I'm so poor" emo posts (Like people actually whining about being poor, not bitching about not having money issues in that moment), I'm like "Unless you're a hobo with a laptop...."
