Writer's Block: No bloody way

[Error: unknown template qotd]

I don't think I'd make an issue about it with a friend, but I think it's pretty disgusting to kill things for fun, and who can't find a way to have fun that doesn't involve killing shit? Really?

It does get better when they at least EAT what they kill, but as you can go get any variety of meat and food substance from the store (And I know that food doesn't always come from animals that were treated well...but I also doubt many hunters only buy free range meat at Whole Foods to respect those cows) that just means they're not wasteful.

I use to have this hippy idea that they bonded and respected the animals they killed, and although their may be a FEW who do....I have yet to meet them. There isn't much skill involved (Perhaps if one was hunting with bow and arrows) and really any bonding (with nature or each other) can be done in about a billion other, non lethal ways.

It's just a brutal things that it absolutely unnecessary no matter how you slice it (And any "over population" is likely an issue because of us being assholes anyway). If someone would like to speak up who is a hunter who does buy free range food when they're not hunting and does use it as an opportunity to commune with nature and thank Earth/God/The animals for giving us their life for ours (And I don't mean cast a thought that way, but that's why you hunt, not to go out with your buddies and have some fun), then I think you're pretty awesome. And I'm willing to bet those are not the kind of hunters who are loud about being hunters and that may be why I don't know of any of them But I have yet to meet any hunters like that. Killing for fun is...not cool.

Unless they're zombies.

I am not as anti-hunting as you, but I do agree that there is a line for sure. Like, you know the rich dudes who pay to stay in lodges and are handed rifles to go and 'hunt' the 'wild animals' that they keep on like... hunting resorts? There is absolutely nothing alright with that. At all. No. That isn't hunting. That is paying to shoot things.

And it do agree one should absolutely, uh....'use' what you hunt. Just going out and shooting things to shoot things just seems a little short of murder, really. I don't know. It's a hazy line I am not fully sure where I stand on. Because I do, also see that there could be a challenge in it, and humans are predators, after all. But, if you aren't hunting with the intent of eating what you hunt... it's just a little weird to me. Like people who fish and don't eat the fish. Except with a lot more needless death involved.

Out east there are a lot of people that hunt and actually use the meat and skins and stuff. It's a big culture, mostly of hunting white tail deer, which are hugely overpopulated (we killed all the wolves, it's sad.) But all of hte people there use the meat, and they make deer jerkey and keep the meat for the whole winter. Kids in my class used to come in with all sorts of delicious crazy shit made from deer. XD

So when it's THAT type of thing (and also: lots of these people actually do the bow and arrow type, which is like omg badass), I think its ok. Especially since that's a much more natural death - being hunted down in the wild for food - than the way we treat our domesticated food animals. I mean, THAT shit is the horrible unnatural stuff. D:

...But people that hunt just for fun? No. No no no no no. That's fucked up. That's a sign of a serial killer or some shit.

My Oklahoma girl on the f-list lives out east where the previous generations killed all the mountain lions so now the deer have lost their natural predator, so humans hunt and use the materials, etc. That is ethical, since the current generation cannot change what happened to the mountain lions. But the cruel treatment of animals in any way is so sad. And the cruel treatment of Soubi-kun.
