I think the next time someone tries to pull the "You can't have an opinion of this subject because you're not gay" card on me I will pull the "I have two girlfriends so I'm twice as gay as YOU." card on them.

Which is fucking ridiculous, but about as ridiculous as assuming someone can't have an opinion on something they haven't gone through. Maybe not as fully developed or worthwhile an opinion, but I hate the assumption that there's "Lived through it and know everything about it." or "Have never had any contact with it ever, and know nothing about it." like knowledge is not a gradient, it's an off and on switch.

And plus there's the ridiculousness of me actually being gay. But then they just have egg on their motherfuckin'face.

I really need a Samuel L. Jackson icon.

Hoshit. That's pretty gay. If I'm bi, does that make you 4 times as gay as me?

Oh wait, I have 10 girlfriends. I must be 5 times as gay as you.

...dammit.

IMHO there are certain things where your opinion isn't near valuable if you haven't experienced it. But that tends to go like, for a straight, white, able-bodied, Christian man trying to have an opinion on modern oppression. Whereas I could, say, try to apply my experience with homophobia or sexism to forming an opinion on racism.

Now, for the white, able-bodied, Christian men to pretend that they're experts on oppression because they're gay. . .

Good thing there are no straight, white, able-bodied Christian men on LJ.

*counts the number of levels in which that comment is cross- and self-referential*

*is actually kind of impressed*

I'm sorry. Some context would have been more appropriate.

My comment was directed at Terra, and not you. You're comment is just... almost ridiculously... related/relevant to some epic LJ lulz and drama. And more ridiculously related/relevent to some lulz, drama, and conversation that originated from the original epic lulz and drama.

Word.

The problem with that statement (and it's something we're all guilty of) is the fact that you don't "look" gay. and Therefor are passing... so how could you possibly know what someone that's "gay" has gone through. Therefor because you didn't have the same experiences as another gay person your point is null and void...

In all actuality that makes every opinion gay/straight/bi/pan null and void because no one has the same experiences as another no matter what the situation is.

People make my head hurt... I want to punch those that are like that...

The strange part is it happens most often online (Although today I don't think I would have ANY issue negating that "You look staright" comment with my wife beater, mechaniceven if it super geekyshirt and near buzz cut hair. I'm a hot dyke yo)

But yeah, exactly. Only you have your opinions, and there are opinions that fall near your in experience and far from yours in experience.

[identity profile] submit-yourself.livejournal.com 2009-09-29 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
WHY DO I NOT HAVE PICTURES OF THIS?! (I need more hot dyke in my life right now...)

I mean my experiences as a lesbian/bi/pansexual Whatever the hell label I feel like wearing that day are going to differ from someone that grew up as a nancy boy in NYC... but at the same time my opinion isn't negated because his is different. IDK as open minded as the LGBT community it's SO closed at the same time...

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2009-09-29 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I sometimes think it can be more closed minded then open. Not always, and it's pockets but fuuuuck those pockets can be nasty.

I'm sorry I'm already mostly undressed and look like crap (due to feeling like crap)

Are you can be on a bit? I wanna talk but I have to do a few things first.

[identity profile] submit-yourself.livejournal.com 2009-09-29 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I'll be on baby. My night is free so do what you have to do and come to me~

[identity profile] the-beanmaster.livejournal.com 2009-09-30 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Does that mean I'm not allowed to think gay people should be allowed to get married because I'm not particularly gay myself?

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2009-09-30 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny how these things only go one way, huh?

[identity profile] cloudyskies2046.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
your 'twice as gay' comment made me chuckle, thanks
