I really need to get a new set of icons going on here. These ones are random and painful like...2006.
I'm not sure what best to post, so I'm gonna just...start with a basic intro post. And feel free to ask questions! I love talking about my self!
So my name is Terra Necessary. I live with my wife Be and roommie/bff Sarah, and the three of us make up the Atomic Pixies. We have been selling art in some form or another at cons since around like...2005? Awhile. Right now we focus on art nouveau style prints, and working on getting our comic going. We live in a suburb outside of Denver with a lot of cats and a lone dog. I'm originally from the Mojave in southern California, but have live in Colorado the majority of my life.
I work with kiddos a lot and love it! Through Pop Culture Classroom/Denver Comic Con I do reach out to teach kids things like literacy and basic math skills through helping them create comics and board games. I also work in Family Preservation, making sure kids get to visit their parents and/or siblings while in the system.
Fandom wise right now my life has been consumed by Yuri!!! On Ice because fuck 2016 all I want it gay ice skaters. I also really loved Westworld, and am still sorta in my return to weeb stage of life with rereads of a bunch of Clamp serise and a greatly slowed Naruto rewatch. And I've been working hard on upping my coming reading, especially more fringe stuff (So, a lot of Image) and enjoying that (Pretty Deadly has my heart right now.) I've also been trying to read romance novels so I can write romance novels (probably for Kindle) and....man. I have had issues finding something good.
Right now I am working on a bunch of art for Colorado Anime Fest (We have 2 steven universe pieces, FMA< an Akatsuki, and a YOI one planned) and THEN I am trying to get like 35 drag queens drawn, plus a handful more of prints for Ru Paul's Drag Con in April I AM SO EXCITED. It has been way too long since I have been in So Cal, and I am staying with our bffs in LA, and seeing two other bffs at the con. One I rarely get to see and one I haven't seen since she left denver. I'm just...really excited.
My life goal right now is to try to start getting money and debt under control, and get moved to the west coast. Probably around Chico or Redding, or somewhere in that 5 corridor. I have a good support system of friends in No Cal, and then more friends and family all up and down the coast. But my wife is chronically ill, and we need disability to come in before I think we can do more than just tread water. Still, I'm really happy that treading water is getting to be a comfortable normal.

(And that's entirely fair, the election screwed up a lot.)

Ugh, man. Like we came back from GGC ready to pack. and then...this hot mess.

What kind of board games do you help the kids make? That sounds really cool.

Statistically there's gotta be a good romance novel, but man idk. I am not worried at all about my book not being good enough.
So sometimes it's themed around something the class or school is doing (Health comes up a lot because of funding) and sometimes the kids can do whatever they want! My favorites have be "Shut up the baby!" (Themed like a movie theater) and "Dumb politicians" which was made nov 9th. I related to that kid.

I'm slowly working on my backlog of things I need to watch/play/read/etc but YoI is on that list so ... soon! And you remind me I need to add a lot of Clamp to that list.
And good luck with the life stuff! Adulting is hard, but I'm glad you feel comfortable at least. ♥

What clamp are you thinking of adding? I have more than enough feelings to rec a few!
Oh man I wanna not be an adult ever again. We had a really really bad patch a few years later, and we're just starting to get back in a forward moving position and man just like...the shot credit, all the debt it's just like...oy. But we're here, we have food and housing and solid jobs and are getting it done.

So my most favorite is Tokyo Babylon, which is one of my most favorite things period. It is about an exorcist living with his twin sister in tokyo and falling in love with the friendly neighborhood vet as he helps people cross over (IDK if you remember in Holic but when she smashes the chicks computer up and is like "If she wanted someone to do the job right she should have called Subaru." This is Subaru. He's a precious cinnamon roll who wants to help ghosts and has no idea fate hates him) It's very beautiful, and dark (It's super sad fyi). It is sorta the prequel to X/1999 (Two of the main characters are in X) which I recommend if yo end up liking clamp, but I would not start there. Dark Horse also just retranslated it and it's A++ (only two omnibus volumes tho, not 7)
On the OTHER end of the scale is Card Captor Sakura which is just a really cute and fluffy and yet still pretty strong and...not deep like idk evangelion deep but like...kid deep. It has really cute characters and an really interesting plot and never quite gets into episode of the week, while also have a nice sorta leisurely pace. It is also the only one I recommend the anime over the manga (And sub only, idk how you feel on that, usually I am fine with dubs but this dub...no.) The manga is super cute and almost the same story, but the animation for the anime is just SO good, and the story works better in motion imo.
Both of those are good and solid and have no caveats and would be good starters!
Clover is really gorgeous and just sorta a one volume sorta off the wall post apocolyptic story that's worth a read.
X/1999 is about the apocolypse happening and is gorgeous and has a lot of great characters but has no ending (It does have a tv show that is ok with an ending tho. but i don't like that ending so i am holding out hope that the manga will be diffrent until the day I or clamp dies because it's never gonna be finished probably D:)
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles is a really fun and good story about 4 travelers hoping through worlds, and probably one of my favorites, but because it has a lot of AU versions of characters I would hold off reading it until you have read at least Cardcaptor Sakura (And Tokyo Babylon and X will def help.) But also all the characters are AUed enough you don't NEED to, everyone is a character on their own, it's just fun to see the way people change around.
Also, XXXHolic and Tsubasa by the end are pretty tightly tied together plot wise, to the point that one won't make a ton of sense after the other. I love XXXholic except for one thing which is a big spoiler (and which clamp seems to be ignoring when they restarted it? SO maybe they hated it to.)
....I don't even wanna see how big this comment is after I hit post I'm sorry I have many clamp feelings.

And lmao someone on my plurk posted this earlier today, related.

It's a dang accurate chat. Thos idk that I would say Tokyo babylon and Xxxholic are not similar levels of PUNCH YOU IN THE HEARTS.

And yes! I think I want to sorta actually look into publishing, instead of just kindle. So I think I'd rather read to that standard anyway (I mean it's not like if I end up putting it on kindle, that's a bad thing anyway)
And yes YOI!!!

Yeah we should definitely chat. What genre of romance do you prefer? Historical, contemporary, paranormal, etc. We have a little of everything, though some genres we only have in our backlist (like sci-fi romance & YA)
I have History Maker stuck in my head and I don't mind. I love this show so much.

I just watched all of gravity falls for the first time like 2 weeks ago!
I also have a sorta publishing ish question about a whole diffrent project. are you on IM anymore? Annnnnnd I'm down for pretty much anything good. The one I am workin on now is sci-fi (secret government robot girl) and then I'm gonna do a bunch of contemporary ice skating (Because Be was like "Oh btw I actually know everything about ice skating." so I can just be like "...hey.")

I LOVE THAT SHOW
I'm not, really but I can go on to chat with you, just probably not until late tomorrow or sometime on Sunday/Monday. This is a crazy busy weekend for me.

No rush! And I am on FB messenger too so that is fine as well!
