On a player to player basis, I would like to state that making your character GAY, generally, is not something that automatically makes them OOC.
Ok, to avoid as much wank as possible, first this is a general rant. There are character that are so painfully straight it IS OOC for them to simply be gay. (Or at least close enough you shouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole unless you have things REALLY worked out and are a REALLY good rper. For example, from what I know of say...Tony Stark, that'd take some damn good character development...)
And this is not related to people who make their characters gay and suddenly they're wanting to play dress up with the closest females, have no problem being super effeminate, and talk with sparkles.
And I also get that what bothers a lot of people is just the general AMOUNT of gay, because it's obviously WAY off from reality. Yeah, fictions usually way off the other way, but RP has more then meet over compensation. But the single rper alone is not responsible for all the gay out there, and it's kinda shitty to call them a bad rper for everyone else rping sins.
But being gay, period, for most characters doesn't not equate OOC alone. Sorry to break it to you but gay (and bi) comes in all shapes and sizes, and being gay doesn't always make you a flouncing pansy (and on the flip side, being a flouncing pansy doesn't alway make you gay. See: Howl Pendragon) I've seen gay men who remind me more of Wolverine then Northstar. Indian Jones then Speed Racer. I could go on, but I think you get the point.
And if the rper is worth anything, unless you want to get in their characters pants, it really shouldn't matter. Friends, enemies....all rping doesn't have to be about romance (And this is from someone who's favorite thing to rp is romance)
I'm not saying people can't make characters gay AND OOC. And I'm more then willing to admit that a lot of times the two do go hand and hand (or, perhaps, gay is just so common and OOC are just so common they over lap enough), but please stop with the assumption that gay=OOC by default. (For most characters)
And I'm trying to decided about posting this to BRPS...

I think the problem is that, you are right, making a character GAY doesn't make them OoC. However, often people will restrict it to one sex or the other when in canon it shows either or. Really, there should be a lot less GAY and a lot more "uncertain"; "uncaring"; "bi" as that is a lot more realistic, and the point of RPing in a community requesting IC is to be as IC as possible.
and GAY doesn't mean pretty sparkles either, no. I remember someone with pretty rainboy sparkle happy kawaii blah blah chuu!%$~~ JRG bullshit fashion style describe their style as GAY. I wanted to stab them in the face.
And you're right. Their sexuality shouldn't matter if they are a good rper. Problem is, a lot of people tend to still rp for relationships in IC games. So it SHOULDN'T matter. And if you're a good RPER (depending on the character; its IC for some people to be all relationship driven) than it WONT matter. Yet that is very rarely the case.

Yeah, mine usually do have a weak preference to start out with, but if something REALLY comes up that fits better...hey that's life. That's how real life sometimes happens. Things click you don't expect.
Ugh I would want to stab them to. I once got an app that described someone as "Uke" and I was like "...gtfo."
But yeah, pretty much. A good RPer can do just about ANYTHING right (I bet somewhere, MPREG has been done right...), but most fall into mediocre/bad (And I ttly count myself as mediocre before someone comes in ranting about how I'm not so great)
no subject
Things click indeed. Like.. gay characters turning strait. That one is always an amusing development.
Uke is a totally acceptable description of one's entirety. I have no idea what you're talking about.
Mpreg can happen if done right, yeah. Like spells that completely change the person's body form male to female. Not a fav, but if you're reasonable and logical about it than whatever.
And yeah. RP account woo.
no subject
I've had that happen. I enjoy'd playing it out a lot.
:3
I've seen idea that might be done right, but never having been my thing I tend to ignore em. But there's a great Sci-fi movie called "Enemy mine" that odes it awesome.
XD I was like "Who the...oh."

I don't see Ichigo as gay. Honestly. I don't really give a damn about bleach nor like it so my opinion is based loosely on the bits I have seen. However, what I've seen, I'm thinking he's relatively strait.
I can't even remember who the others were other than Haku. And Haku, I don't see him being sexual at all. It'd take awhile for a relationship to get that far. These are just my idea's though.
On the flip side though, I can see where they are coming from. And there may be more to this than the secret portrays. They seem annoyed that this person is all about gay sex. Which makes it seem like the reason this secret is in existence is not because the character is GAY but because they are GAY and relationship driven and god dammit RP isn't about faggot tree's.
Could be wrong. Gmail isn't giving me notifications. Hm.

I didn't know any of the other besides Haku and Ichigo. I'm like you on Ichigo, but I have heard people in the fandom make the argument he's surrounded by beautiful woman of all variety and has never made a move on any.
Haku is Zabuza-sexual. It take a lot to play him any other way and not be OOC.
Yeah, not knowing the situation they could be ttly valid on that situation, but just from what they showed inspired this.

That right there is making the assumption that all men are driven by the looks of a woman and that getting to know a woman, or a man being strait and not interested in a relationship at the time, or a man being more interested in things like personality, or intelligence, ect, is preposterous.
Arg.
no subject
But I'm not saying those all aren't directions that can be taken. I'm just saying I've heard that as an argument...he's never shown interest in either sex, despite having all types around him. So hence you can't really pin what sex he's interested in.
The general idea that he's "HOMG so straight" seems to be based on the fact he has an aggressive, macho personality, not on the fact he's shown interest in females. And I'm pretty sure we can both agree that aggressive and macho doesn't necessarily tie in with sexuality.
no subject
Indeed.
I don't know enough about them either. I think he's at least show potential feelings for Orihime? No idea though. That seems to be the common pairing.

I suppose maturity level has something to do with the increasing why of nearly yaoi only rpgs, but making a character gay isn't a OOC act as you said.
But it sure is tiring to see *gay characters* over and over again.
Its one of the reason I almost to never play a female character, she would just get painfully ignored and I've seen it happen.
But at the same time...allow me to play the Devil's Advocate for I am not comfortable playing the role of a straight male either.
Though, my new Judge Magister Gabranth-muse is clearly straight but *NOT INTERESTED* sort of vibe*Same goes for my Prince Rasler-muse and Balthier-muse who is still lurking somewhere.
I personally think rp romance can ruin the flow between both characters and muns...

I'm with you though. I have a harder time playing purely straight males (Straight females is easiest for me)
[lol rp journal] -miharu
If a mun only wants private rp sessions of yaoi or whatever, why join a community to begin with?
In a multi-universe and big rpgs, you can't just sit there and only rp with one person because they fit your OTP.
No, frickin' way!
Get out there and mingle a little!
Playing a straight female is easier to us than a man for we already know what a straight girl is probably like.
However, I find it funny how women automatically assume they know how it is to be a 'gay man'...
That is when the weeaboo jap-engrish begins and when the RAWRS begin, I guess.
But I digress.
I'm just going to jump into this conversation right here.
As a man being more interested in fellow men, I lol'd.
I think its because writing gay erotica is easier because its so... practised? Also, a friend of my brought this up: there's is no 'good' word for a woman's parts. Describing a heterosexual sex scene is more difficult, and almost.. foreign sounding. (Or weird depending)
(( no. My icon wasn't contradicting at all. ))
Miharu [Its okay to jump in]
With heterosexual sex scenes, I tell you...I am usually not comfortable with them, even if I am playing the man. I have no idea what to say considering I never really done anything like it in rl and pretty shy around the topic.
But as my idea why so many girls leap into the role of the 'beautiful yaoi bishounen' is because they are trying to escape the invulnerability's of being female.
I don't rp heterosexual scenes usually because I feel a slight tinge of vulnerability when doing so.
I assume that is why some girls are more comfortable doing yaoi more than hentai and yuri, since its more like a *fantasy* to them and not scraping the coat-tails of reality. I am not saying all yaoi rpers are like this if they are female [Look at Terra and I]
but I have a feeling that is what the overall population of young female rpers feel and the reason some may dig yaoi so much.
I think as of myself, I have gotten to the point that I merely want the fun back in rps and not the over usage of sex and violence in it.
Re: Miharu [Its okay to jump in]
I think that has a lot to do with it. Playing to males makes things both even, and distant (I know my issue with Yuri was that it got a bit to close to cheating for me, I couldn't detach as well)
Re: Miharu [Its okay to jump in]
The closer we distant ourselves from who we really are, the more of a fantasy it remains to be.
I play the muses I play now before they are usually 100% different from who I am and should stay that way.
I admit, I screwed up a few times and took it too seriously as the characters I've played before...but holy hell, lesson learned!
I am no Knight in shining armor and no sky pirate with perfect diction.
I wish alot of other rpers knew they are not the characters they play and that the characters do not represent their true personality.
Re: Miharu [Its okay to jump in]
The thing that bothers me about it the most is the automatic assumption that one's sexuality means they will and do have sex. You can be gay without having sex or even being in a relationship. Than that is a common assumption in real life too for all sexualities.
And again we revisit the entire, 'many people rp for relationship purposes' thing.
A highly probably theory on why yaoi is so overdone. That was why yaoi was created in the first place anyways.
Re: I'm just going to jump into this conversation right here.
But I think every girls who wants to write gay smut should be force to read some hardcore gay erotic. So they're at least aware they're doing the romance novel equivalently.
XD

Let's be honest ladies, our *V* looks evil sometimes. lol
Hardcore gay erotic for the win!
Not every man who is gay shaves their ass and looks pretty in a skirt!
no subject
Not many gay men shave their ass period. Sorry to bring that reality to light. Maybe I'm missing out on something because I don't pay attention to the trends of faggot land, but much of the male population goes PFT to that. Save for the super prissy candy boys and the guys who REALLY need to shave their ass.
Although often its the guys that REALLY need to shave that absolutely WONT.
no subject
But yeah, any females hwo doesn't rrealize yoi is to reality what romance novels are is...fooling herself.
Re: I'm just going to jump into this conversation right here.
True. Although men have 7855647645i8854 names for their dong, and the cbox gets no love.
"But I think every girls who wants to write gay smut should be force to read some hardcore gay erotic. So they're at least aware they're doing the romance novel equivalently."
Also, they need to be more aware that we do in fact have vertebrae. I mean some people are flexible and the common pose is possible with said flexibility But than you get some very bad spine bending involved and I just kind of go 'ouch'.
Re: I'm just going to jump into this conversation right here.
I'm probably guilty of lack of spine in art (Not just in gay pron. Period) Have you run into it in rping? I have to admit, since I'm not hardcore into rping smut, most of my stuff has been pretty vanilla.
Re: I'm just going to jump into this conversation right here.
Nah. I don't rp sex really ever. I haven't rped a relationship in general in a long time. However there's a lot of fictions out there that think men are ferrets.

Also, if you're thinking about posting this to BRPS, a quick proofread is in order because there are parts of this rant that don't read right. >.>

But I did point out that it is a problem, that RP has over compensated. But like i said, that doesn't make a bad RPer. It's a weakness on RP as a whole. It the same issue as slapping the Sue label on any OC.
no subject
I never said anything about it labelling someone a bad RPer. I just stated it makes it harder for other people to get involved. Maybe if people were more open to playing the female characters that they deem as wishy washy and improve on the flaws of the character in question (Rinoa, Garnet, etc.) then it would make for some interesting RPing.
no subject
Althought I have to see, I have ran into games that work without females, and I would never force myself to play a character I don't like just to play a female. Then again I don't have an issue finding females I enjoy.
