No, I shot the bus driver.
Too anyone who's ever bitched about Yaoi fangirls pairing anyone together just cause, I present fanart of Zabuza/Rinoa she does kinda look like Haku...
So movie reviews/thoughts/whatever. I'm gonna put a lot of space at the bottom on each's LJ-cut, so you can look at one without seeing the others. These are in order of like...hardcore...
These are not BY ANY MEANS spoiler free.
Was cute cute cute. All over cute. Some gorgeous animations, and dealt nicely with the whole "HEY GUYS WERE FUCKING OVER THE PLANET!" thing without being to...the Happening.
Also, Micheal Crawford ♥ and if you look at Wall-e you really CAN tell he's designed off a young Micheal Crawford!
And uhm...it's cute. yeah. Go see it.
That was the best review ever.
HOMG I loved it.
The visual...freaking A the visuals. Like everything was so rich and stunning and PERFECT. I love the concept of Urban fey, so like...it was a happy happy idea for me from the start. I loves Nuala and Nuada's designs (I might cosplay Nuala if Matt ever actually DOES his Hellboy costume, but we haven't figured out Abe for Ju yet)
There were SO many place in this movies I was busting out laughing. Like literally rolling around laughing. I love the character of Krauss (And I know he's not the way he is in canon, but I loved what he was) I love the fairy people, and Abe changing "voices" did not bother me at all, I thought he did fine taking over from David Hyde Pearce. I don't think I've ever seen him in a speaking role before (Did he do the Pan's voice, or just it's body?) Also, he was so pretty.
The bad: Liz sucked. I think it was a cross between me not liking where they took her character, and Selma Blair having the acting skills of a potato peeler. Actually I think the Potato Peeler in batman had more of an impact then her. The whole plot line involved with her was...blah. Pacing was a bit rushed, and the thing with the angel of death thing was not used for as good as it could be, it felt rather stuck on.
And the ending was very obvious. Even though it made me cry buckets, I also knew from like...half way through the movie. And it really bothered me that neither Liz nor Hellboy stopped to really see if Abe was all right.
Also, hot sexy twincest.
This review's probably gonna be heavier on the bad because the good is so overwhelming and really does not need to be touched on as everyone else probably is, and if I tried to list everything good I'd be here forever. I would have to sit down and think long and hard and re-watch a lot of movies before I declared it the best super hero movie ever, but hot damn it's up there. Awesome plot (I really expected them not to wrap it up, and was impressed they did.), kick ass acting, nice special effect (the kind you don't notice, which are the best kind) and...yeah. VERY VERY GOOD movie, probably the best made blockbuster movie of the year. Go see it. I love the nods to the cartoon so so much, and if you haven't figured out the Joker is awesome he's uhm...awesome. A kick ass mix of really, truly disturbing, but also funny...in a really truly "Oh GOD did I just laugh at that?!" way.
Now to the bad: Even with a new actress, I don't like Rachel. But at least now I don't like her as a CHARACTER not as wanting that actress to stop being in my real of existence. She wasn't flat or anything, just didn't particularly like her. Though i thought her relationship with Harvey was well done.
I REALLY liked Harvey. A lot. There was a lot of place early on where it was heavy on the "Hey...hey guys..hey guy we're FORESHADOWING!" but I still loved him...
However that two face make up/CGI...oh god. I WILL give them at least that he WAS right out of the hospital, so my issues early with healing time/infection aren't valid (It wouldn't have healed, and there was no time for infections) However...just...ugh. It looked so tacky and cheap horror movie zombie, and I know he's suppose to be half and half, but the Joker's also suppose to be bleached white. These movies lean towards realism, could we have had a little more notice of the way a face contours, and that kinda damage wouldn't have EXACTLY been half and half?
And I could have swallowed one huge flaw in basic medical logic with it, but I can name at least three of the top of my head (a)With so much muscle damage, he wouldn't have been able to talk/see/control most of his face, (b)since he wasn't taking painkillers moving around so much...I'm sorry but there is a point that your body just shuts down from pain and you can delay it with things like adrenaline, but taking out your enemy over a period of time=/=a short burst of adrenaline to get you out of danger, and (c)you have SO much fluid in your head in that area that the leaking, and the missing would just outright send you into shock. And these are just from a back seat medical student.
It just pushed suspension of disbelief too far. And I don't think it would have bothered me SO much if it wouldn't have been so EASY to work around. Say he got skin grafs, but the Joker interrupted the surgery so they were fucked up. Or just that they looked horrible. Even healed up burn victims aren't pretty, and it would be more horrifying while they were still stitched up and swollen. I'm sure I could pull some more ways out of my ass and I'm not even getting paid for it.
And apparently I thought about that more then anyone needs to since I got pretty teal deer there...eh, like I said when something THIS good, the flaws are easier to discuss.
The boats also got to me a bit. Not the convict one, I thought that was perfect, but the other one...I can believe 95% of those people would do that. But since it was set up that only ONE person needed to push the button, I didn't buy it. Specially since there was at least one mother with a young child.
Also, wtf at Scarecrow for 5 second? I expected his role to be bigger and it felt like a throwaway. I don't care too much cause one Scarecrow movie was enough but it felt odd in such a well thought out movie. Then again there wasn't much ROOM for anything else, so maybe deleted scenes...
And it wasn't a big thing, but either they should not have had Gordon's daughter, or they should not have been like "No. no nothing to see her...no, this head...don't pay attention to it." It was awkward the way they were dancing around her. You know most any fan was like "SCREW HIS SON WE WANNA SEE BABY BATGIRL!"
ALSO. NO HARLEY. D:
Feel free to comment. Agree or disagree, debate or throw in additional opinions. Just keep in mind everyone has their own view of things.
Also, Watchman, and The Spirt, and all the previews we saw pretty much looked awesome.

I know comic book movies have a lot of shaky or impossible science in them, but it should always be belivable within the setting of that world and that was the first time I was like "...wut. No."*
*In then new batman movies. Not...ever.

I hope to heaven they don't change that in future films because the most important thing is the look. It was SOMETHING of a departure for the Joker, but then again not really. No one really knows much about him. Joker doesn't have a real name, or an origin to speak of. No one knew what he looked like under "the red hood" before he fell in that vat, nor do they know if it is make up, surgery, or deformity that makes him look as he does.
That's what made Joker, Joker. He could tell you a 100 different stories of who he was and how he came to be and none of them would be any more real than the other. Or are they? He probably doesn't even remember who he is himself anymore.
Personally, I thought it was awesome that Cillian had such a short clip in the film, for one, it showed that UNLIKE the other Batman movies, these villians aren't "one and done." They aren't killing them off because they think the actor won't sign for another one.
It shows continuity with the previous movie without it bogging down the story, like when they try to put TOO MANY VILLIANS in one film (ie: X-MEN 3, Batman & Robin, etc.) you have a choice of an actor being shortchanged or the story being uneven to fit in a decent size part for some actor. No actor is bigger than the story, and it's good to see Nolan realize that and try to get Cillian for the bit part.
However, it wasn't nessecary for him to be there if he demanded a bigger part, they just didn't have to take off his hood. The voice isn't that hard to do.
But it actually tied into the Dark Knight Returns where he had these crazies who wanted to BE Batman running around trying to "help". Plus it'd make sense Crane would be one of the Bat Worshipers for lack of a better term, since Crane himself worshiped fear, and he learned that there was no fear better than Batman.
Also, there can't be Harley until AFTER Joker is commited to Arkham. He was new to Gotham in TDK. so he wouldn't have been a guest of Arkham until the end of the movie.
Dr. Quinzel has yet to meet Joker.
Also I dug the catwoman reference.

IDK, nothing will get me to like that face. Canon version or not. A lot of things work in one format, and even if it's exciting to see them IRL, it just doesn't work (For example, I have seen AMAZING Harley cosplayers...and they still look weird. Even if their costumes are dead on) I really think we don't have to worry about Two face's effect for later movies XD...
As for the Joker, whatever version you look at, the movie took a realistic approach. Wether there's comic version that match or not, they took the most real approach, the movies have not stretched far from believable, even when it was possible to stay "canon" and do as such. It feels odd that Two Face was the ONLY place they decided not to go the most realistic route, and although I'm not super familiar with Two-face, I'm sure SOMEWHERE in all of Batman's varied canon there is a more realistic version. (And even if there's not, the movie could have easily made one as such)
It's not that it might not be good for a version of Two Face somewhere, it just didn't feel like it fit in THIS version of the Batman world, which tries to stay as close to realistic as possible when possible. (For example, on the flip side, it would have felt TOO realistic for the older movies)
I do see what you mean on the ACTORS front about Scarecrow, and I agree he shouldn't have had a HUGE role, but something about it felt almost like they were trying TO hard to do what you said. IO agree it's really cool to see them being like "Remember this is still the same place, one movie ending doesn't make it a reset" and I liked him being there but something...IDK. It just felt...rushed? And IDK if it was the AMOUNT of time, or maybe a line to give it a bit more conclusion or something?
I loved the idea of people mimicking Batman though. And the guys attitude of "Why should you be the only one." I thought that part was a really amazing touch.
I had hoped that the little end easter egg/scene would be him in his cell and her walking in to interdouce herself as Dr. Quinzel. I know she wouldn't have been "Harley" decked out in her red and black, but just a little nod. I actually kinda wanted a bit more noddy fan service (Like the catwoman thing) but I can understand why they didn't do it (like, it woulda been nice for fans, but it could bog things down)
So who would you like to see in a third movie? Besides the obvious, I'd love to see Ivy or Catwoman...Bad Girl movie? :3 I real gritty Penguin would be interesting, but in both movies the whole mod boss/mafia people have seemed more scenery then characters.

I had heard a dirty rumor about Harley being in the movie, which was, of course, FALSE FALSE FALSE. But now she can't be in any other Nolanverse movies (if he makes any more, which I'm sure he will, but, y'know...) because I can't see anyone else having the balls to follow Ledger's performance, and Harley Quinn is NOTHING without the Joker.
LOL, RUN-ON.
I LOL'D ABOUT THE BATGIRL THING, AHAHA. I did what you talked about. "I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE BOY, SHOW ME BATGIRL COME ON."

Having talked more with my buddy and family thought that the movie should have ended when Rachel was killed, and the Joker was caught, and Harvey was in the hospital, and the next movie shoulda given Harvey his time.
I heard a good idea with Harley somehow taking after the joker's legacy wkith him dead/in arkham but alas...I doubt it...:(
