Mother fucker.

The courts can't help us because it's a destroy order.

They took our dog's for "their welfare" to lock them up for 11 days and destroy them.

Yeah.

That's so good for them.

Motherfuckers.

Dear

My name is Maureen Hanson. I live at 1648 Newark St, Aurora, CO. My home phone is 303-341-1194. On Saturday, March 7, 2009, the Aurora Animal Control came while I as out to lunch, and took all my animals. They decided the dogs were in sub-standard conditions, went into my home (although they made no attempt to contact me) and took every animal, even our 2 indoor cats (which had food , water, and a cat box in their room, because there was one small mess, outside of the cat box, due to the kitten not being 100% box trained). They stated this was a welfare call (they were worried I was indisposed, but they did not call my home number, or bother to talk to my two neighbors and close friend standing right outside watching). The cats were in a room locked from the outside, so they had to know no one was in there. They went through every room of my home. (I am planning on contacting the ACLU, but their response time is too slow for this crisis)
I live on Social Security Disability payments of a $1000 per month. The boarding costs alone for the animals, before any fines or fees, is $110 per animal, or $770, as my court date is 3/18/09. I can't afford that, plus court costs, plus whatever else they are going to hit me. I tried to surrender my animals for adoption, but the City of Aurora refused to hear me (I’ve tried the courthouse, and animal control as of today 3/11/09). The feedback I keep getting is that Aurora just wants to kill my babies, and take my money.
I’m not sure why the City of Aurora is being so aggressive about this. I have many friends who would be willing to say that I do not treat my animals inhumanely. All the animals had gotten fairly recent vet care (all of which I have record for), were well feed, and in good health. All the issues on the sheet were things for which one is generally given a fix it ticket, by Aurora’s own rules, yet they decided to enter my house and take these animals to “humanely dispose of them.”
The issues was that the dogs were in danger due to some debris in their dog run. They claim this was unhealthy for them, however I fail to see how killing them is ANY more healthy. They are good dogs, young and well tempered. I’ve tried twice (both when I first went to the shelter after arriving home to find them gone, and two days later) to surrender them so they could at least be adopted to good homes, to not punish THEM, but the Aurora Animal Control thinks these dogs and cats deserve to die because there was trash in my yard.
I’m not sure what help, if any, you can offer. At this point, even a reasonable attorney charge would be considered
Thank You

Maureen Hanson

We've contacted Peta, our representatives, and all the news people we could think of.

Edit: Since a few people are linking to this: I've contacted the Humane Society, the Denver Dumb Friend League, and ASPCA.

DDFL contacted us and said they had some ideas, but we had some crossed wires and haven't gotten a hold of them yet.

PETA refused to help flat out. They said in their experience that these things are deserved. I sent back a message saying at this point, we don't even so much care about us getting them back (That's what the court date is) but making sure that Aurora transfers or Adopts them if we lose, instead of killing them. I have yet to hear back.

Edit 2: Denver Dumb Friend League sent us to some lawyers. The guy there use to be a cop, says everything stinks of illegal with the search. One Lawyer said she couldn't help, we're waiting to hear back from the other.

I went to visit them. Ryuu nearly climbed up the cage to see us, and Duddits clawed up my arms trying to get at me. Obviously unloved dogs here :/

I'm not surprised. From what I've read, PETA officially states that keeping animals as pets in inhumane to begin with, and would rather see animals die than be kept as pets.

I agree. They act like they're doing good, but they take things way too extreme.
