Ok, so maybe a fandom I am so-so on and a couple I don't care about isn't the best place to pick this fight, but OMG THIS STUPID HURTS

I want to beat someone over the head whenever I hear "Yaoi isn't supposed to be like real gay people, so it's okay!" Because, yeah, some people make that distinction and enjoy it as a kink in the same way I can enjoy a slavery kink while knowing it is wrong in every way. . .But a lot of people DON'T make that distinction and assuming that gay relationships do work that way.

Also, it's a really sexist distinction to make (why is the girl the one who is weak, cries all the time, and really dependent on the man?), and really heteronormative. Real straight relationships rarely work that way, so fucking shut the fuck up and write characters that are individuals, not sex roles.

Goddamnit I hate being redundant.

I think a lot of the issue is, like you said, a kink is ok, but a lot of people AREN'T using uke/seme as a KINK.

Plus, like my comment said, it bothered me they aren't talking ABOUT yaoi, they're just talking about two characters they like gay together. UGH.

Yep. It's like any kink, it's okay so long as you realize it's a kink (and are safe, sane, and consensual when you exercise it), and why it's wrong in RL. . .But people who realize it's wrong don't go around saying "Yaoi isn't like RL!" Or at least they don't do it like that.

YAOI is sex without a point. That's what the term means. It does not mean "fluffy retardedness" and it does not mean "gay relationship." It also doesn't mean "making your characters do unrealistic shit."

I wish slash would be come a more accepted term in anime fandom so that line was easier to draw between "This unrealistic genre for horny japanese woman" and "making two character gay together".

Yaoi just kind of became the popular term for "gay". Which, it is "gay". Its Gay sex. Which is something that DOES happen in the gay community. So, in some very vague sense it DOES have its tie ins with RL sex. Sense YAOI is sex, and sex is sex.

But its not a relationship. Its sex. And everyone kind of accepts YAOI as "gay" now. As if YAOI is how the Japanese say "homosexual" or something.

I'm pretty excited. Its nice to see some theories I've had come to reality and be solidified as accurate.
